The Shelterbag 2021

Since the beginning of 2021 Studio Joris de Groot is happy to be part of the Sheltersuit family. Sheltersuit is a place where people work together with thoughtfulness and dedication, to create products that provide immediate shelter to people experiencing homelessness. The products of Sheltersuit are made from leftover materials of various manufacturers. Sheltersuit asked us to contribute our knowledge and design skills in the further development of their existing products, as well as in the development of new products.

The Shelterbag is a portable, sheltered bed that can be rolled up into a bag. It is waterproof, lightweight, easy to handle and has an extra compartment for some personal items. It comes with a sleeping bag and a built-in pillow, but also has room for an extra mattress or blanket, making it adaptable to all seasons. A flexible tent pole is integrated into the hood to keep it upright, providing more space and better shelter from the rain. The first Shelterbag was developed in 2018 by Sheltersuit founder Bas Timmer.

Studio Joris de Groot has been working on a new version of the Shelterbag. For this, we researched various improvements, which are implemented and developed. We approached Royal Auping who helped us develop a mattress of recycled materials for the Shelterbag. The first 250 of these new Shelterbags have been distributed to homeless people.

Next to this, Studio Joris de Groot is working on several other projects for Sheltersuit. We can also announce that we are part of the design team of the very first fashion collection of the Sheltersuit Label, which will be launched on March 4th 2022 in Palais de Tokyo during Paris Fashion Week 2022. Stay tuned!
