Weld Stool

For the project Weld Stool, De Groot has collaborated with Lever Kunststoftechniek and Hubbers BV.: an industrial plastic mounting company and a company which specialized in the producing of custom fit interiors.

By researching these two companies and by joining the forces of both parties, the series Weld Stool originated. In this collaboration the welding technique and plastic material of Lever Kunststoftechniek has been used to create a strong tensioned seating surface. The sophisticated custom fit of the wood and the various cutouts of the pattern pieces are executed by Hubbers BV. The form is achieved by doing research to the folding technique which Charles Eames applied to his Plywood experiment in 1946. This way of designing provides the strength, the detail for technique, and an easy manufacturing process. The material that has been used for the stools is mainly composed from recycled PE.

Weld Stool Bar
The shape of the Weld stool is inspired by studying the Plywood experiment of Ray and Charles Eames from 1946.
The plastic seating is cold formed and welded together, which keeps the surface under constant tension. This provides a comfortable seat and makes it extra strong!
The welding technique that normally is used in the production of large water systems ensures a firm construction and a refined detail within the design.
